Republicans, including Indiana Congressman Mike Pence, want to cut funding to Planned Parenthood, saying the group uses federal money to perform abortions.

Planned Parenthood officials are reacting to an Indiana Congressman’s push to cut off their funding. Sixth District Congressman Mike Pence is one of several Republicans pushing for a cut in tax dollars to the organization. Legislators say the federal government should not fund abortion services. But Planned Parenthood of Indiana executive director Betty Cockrum says none of the money in the Title 10 Program goes for abortion services.

“Not one dime goes for abortions or in any way supports the provision of abortion anywhere and the Hyde amendment specifically prohibits that from happening,” said Cockrum.

Cockrum says instead, the funding is used for cervical cancer pap tests, birth control, and STD testing and treatment. Cockrum says the majority of their clients are low income women who use the clinic’s services for their healthcare provisions.
