A stage collapsed at the Indiana State Fair this summer prior to a performance by the country music duo Sugarland.
Marion County prosecutor Terry Curry has filed charges against two women he says tried to take money from state fair stage collapse victims. Curry says Stephanie Murry and Sandra Hurn made false claims to the Indiana State Fair Remembrance Fund and the Indiana Tort Claim Fund.
The Tort Claim Fund is administered by the Indiana Attorney General’s Office. Officials say both women claimed they were injured in the state fair stage collapse on August 13, 2011. They are alleged to have falsified hospital records in order to be eligible to make claims to both funds. Hurn was arrested when she went to pick up a claim check, and Murry was arrested shortly thereafter. Both women face numerous charges including fraud, forgery and attempted theft.
