Opponents of a proposed coal-gasification plant in Edwardsport are putting together a suit to block the plant’s construction.
While the Governor-appointed Indiana Utility Regulator Commission approved the plant last month, Duke Energy must now seek approval of an air quality panel in the Department of Environmental Management. Opponents are mounting a letter-writing campaign, but Dave Menzer with the Citizens Action Coalition says it’s a long shot, even though efforts against Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle plants in other states have been successful.
Menzer says they’ll ask a judge to overturn the approval of the Office of Utility Consumer Counselor. Again, he characterizes that effort as a long shot.
