President Obama shakes the hand of a veteran. He gave a speech Tuesday to the American Legion in Indianapolis via a video.
President Obama addressed hundreds of American Legion members via video message at the organization’s national convention in downtown Indianapolis on Tuesday.
Though the crowd was largely made up of older veterans, President Obama’s remarks were not limited to his administration’s initiatives and accomplishments in regards to veterans of past conflicts. Obama says his administration is pulling out all the stops to help returning veterans find jobs.
He says that is “including more than 125,000 jobs for veterans and military spouses announced this week through our Joining Forces initiative because no one who has fought for America should have to fight to find a job in America.”
President Obama also touted increases to the Veterans Affairs budget, veterans’ health care protection and advancing suicide prevention efforts for returning servicemembers.
GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romney will speak to the convention Wednesday.
