Notre Dame officials say accepting undocumented students will strengthen the school's academics.

The University of Notre Dame announced Thursday they will begin accepting undocumented immigrants who meet the university’s academic standards.

The university has changed its admissions policies to reflect this change. Officials say they believe the change will attract academically stronger students to Notre Dame.

“In making the decision to admit academically qualified men and women who are undocumented,” Don Bishop, associate vice president for undergraduate enrollment said in a statement. “We will strengthen our incoming class and give deserving young people the chance for a Notre Dame education.”
