Nine Kokomo Businesses Destroyed By Fire

A hearing center and a dance school were among the shops destroyed by a fire Sunday morning in Rodeo Plaza after the structure's attic engulfed in flames.

A Kokomo strip mall containing nine businesses was completely destroyed by a fire early Sunday morning. Rodeo Plaza, located at 3100 South LaFountain Street, housed a hearing center, a dance school, and other small shops and businesses. Kokomo Fire Department investigator Glenda Meyers says the attic of the structure was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived at 3 a.m. Sunday.

Meyers says the roof eventually collapsed, but no one was inside the building, so there were no injuries. Firefighters worked at the site until 6 p.m. Sunday to extinguish all of the hot spots.  All of the businesses suffered a total loss. The cause of the fire is unknown.
