New York Curator And Artist Taking Over BAAC

Pamela Keech has been a curator in Manhattan for 15 years. Now she will take over as executive director of the Bloomington Area Arts Council.

New York museum curator and instillation artist Pamela Keech is set to take over leadership of the Bloomington Area Arts Council on September 4. Keech says her top priority as executive director will be maintaining and expanding the organization’s financial footing.

For the last 15 years, Keech has lived in Manhattan curating the Lower East Side Tenement Museum. She has two sisters who live in Bloomington, and she says she’s been very attracted to the community over the time she’s spent visiting them. Keech says the transition from a big city arts scene to a more rural one won’t be that difficult for her.

Keech will be arriving in Bloomington in late August. She’s filling the position vacated by Miah Michaelsen who left to serve as assistant director of economic development for the arts for the City of Bloomington. The director’s position has been filled on an interim basis by marketing and development director Ed Vande Sand. The BAAC promotes public participation in the arts across a five county area, including Monroe, Brown, Greene, Lawrence and Owen counties.
