The number of applicants for jobs at the new Honda plant in Greensburg is bigger than the populations of Greensburg and Seymour combined. The plant has been flooded with 30,000 applications for the 2,000 jobs being offered. Honda set a midnight Sunday deadline to apply for the Greensburg plant. Honda spokesperson David lida says he’s surprised at the number of applicants.
Iida says Indiana’s Department of Workforce Development will weed out applicants without a high school education, or who live outside the 20 Indiana counties from which Honda is hiring. The rest of the stack will be forwarded to Honda to decide who to interview, starting around late November. Iida says past automotive experience may be a plus, but says the company is primarily looking for enthusiasm and a sense of teamwork. The plant doesn’t open for another year, but Iida says the first hires should be made in December.
