Monroe County residents will see a July 4th fireworks show after all.
Mike and Cathleen Smith own PyroSmith Pyrotechnics and decided to rent the Monroe County fairgrounds and put on the show themselves. This after AMVETS canceled their show after more than 10 years due to a lack of funding.
“We are seeking sponsorship from local businesses. We’re trying to keep this a very local community based event for participation,” Cathleen Smith says.
The Smith’s plan to keep the event simple for their first year and hope to see it grow into a bigger community event.
“It’s been quite exciting and exhilarating actually, we’re fairly new to the county and we are just excited about the enthusiasm that there will be a show this year.”
Admission will be $8 per car and $2 for walk-ins. The 30-minute show will start at dusk on July 4th.
