The Monroe County YMCA announced a new initiative to raise money to build a second facility on the Northwest side of Monroe County as well as funding renovations for the current facility.
The program started off with a $5 million dollar gift from Bloomington-based Cook Group Inc. Cook Group President and Honorary Chair Kem Hawkins says that the YMCA expansion is overdue.
“Cook was involved historically at the very beginning of the very first [YMCA] and we have been very supportive in the community for efforts like this.” Hawkins said.
Officials hope to break ground on the expansion this fall.
