Heather Cohee resigned from her position as a Benton Township trustee in March.

A former Monroe County township trustee involved in misappropriating funds will avoid prison time.

Heather Cohee of Benton Township pleaded guilty to two counts of theft, official misconduct and obtaining a controlled substance.

Cohee stole a prescription pad and used it to get hydrocodone, and used taxpayer money for personal expenses.

She resigned in March 2012 and two months later she was asked to repay over $360,000, which included three times the amount she stole plus the cost of the audit and attorney’s fees.

She will enter a drug treatment program and must remain sober or she could face jail time.
