Monroe County Test Scores Improve Faster Than State Average

Scores from the Monroe County Community Schools Corporation were several percentage points higher than the statewide average.

Monroe County students scored slightly higher than they did on last year’s exams, according to ISTEP+ scores that were released Tuesday.

The Monroe County Community School Corporation saw an increase of 3.1 percent from last year. Scores show 77.6 percent of MCCSC students passed both the English language arts and math section of the test.

“The state was at 71 percent passing both and that was a 1 percent increase from the year before, so in all of those areas we saw significant increases and we outpaced the gains that were made statewide,” MCCSC Elementary Education Director Cameron Rains says.

Rains attributes the students testing success to the district’s teaching style that aims to meet to each individual student’s needs.

Scores sorted by school can be found on the StateImpact Indiana website.
