The Monroe County School Corporation is tackling the issue of school safety Monday night. Administrators, parents and students are gathering for a forum at Jackson Creek Middle School in Bloomington.
School and Community Services Director Beverly Smith says it is part of a discussion about recent tragedies in Newtown, Connecticut and Alabama.
“We‘re doing this in partnership with the Foundation of Monroe County Schools and really wanting to sit down and have a transparent conversation with the school community in light of the many things we‘ve seen recently,” she says.
Smith says student and staff safety is already a top priority, but they want to maximize any new possibilities. The forum is free and open to the public and being at 7 p.m.
