On the first day of the New Year, thirteen Monroe County elected officials were sworn into office.
Newly elected auditor Steve Saulter says he is ready to begin his term and restore confidence in his office. A special prosecutor is currently investigating former auditor Amy Gerstman for a possible misuse of public money.
“It’s been a long tedious road and turbulent times over the past year,” Saulter says. “We’ve got good staff, good people in there that are going to work with me and we’re gonna make people proud of the auditor’s office again,”
About 50 people gathered for Tuesday’s swearing in ceremonies. Indian Creek Township Trustee Vicky Sorensen came to support her peers. She says most of them know what they’re doing and she has confidence in their leadership.
“They’ll learn it’s a challenge and there are good days and bad days but you do what you can,” Sorensen says.
Five other officials were sworn in prior to Tuesday’s ceremony.
