The Monroe County Community School Corporation school board voted last night to appoint Dr. Judith DeMuth, of LaPorte, Indiana, as the district’s new permanent superintendent.
According to board president Jim Muehling, DeMuth will be offered a 4-year contract. She replaces current interim superintendent Timothy Hyland, who has been at the helm of the corporation since the beginning of January.
Muehling said trustees, along with a panel of community members, considered 33-applicants, before deciding on DeMuth.
Former school board member Valerie Merriam said DeMuth was considered in previous superintendent searches and was ultimately her preference over now retired J. T. Coopman.
Jackson Creek Middle School principal David Pillar said he is looking forward to hopefully working with DeMuth over the long term.
DeMuth comes to the MCCSC from the LaPorte County Community School Corporation in Northern Indiana. If she accepts the appointment, she will officially take office on July 1st.
