Kokomo Mayor Greg Goodnight will be co-chairing the 2011 Indiana Association of Cities and Towns Legislative Committee. Goodnight will be working closely with Mayor Jason Thompson of Monticello, as well as other municipal officials. The organization’s main goal are to improve the quality of life in all Indiana cities and towns.
“We have a lot of similar problems, most cities do,” Goodnight said. “Whether it’s addressing infrastructure needs, especially in times of national recession or dealing with unemployment and the social issues that go along with that.”
President of IACT and Marion Mayor Wayne Seybold says Goodnight was the 2010 IACT chairman and has proven himself as a leader both within the organization and as Mayor of Kokomo. Seybold selected him as co-chair partly because of the accomplishments he made reversing Kokomo’s failing manufacturing industries, making his city one of the successful stories of 2010.
Goodnight says he plans to support an initiative which would prevent city employees from serving on the councils for which they work. A similar plan failed to make it to the state Senate last year. A full list of legislative initiatives can be found at www.citiesandtowns.org.
