The daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney is coming to Indianapolis next month in opposition of the proposed constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage.
Mary Cheney will be hosting a fundraiser Dec. 11 to support Freedom Indiana, an organization that opposes House Joint Resolution 6 (HJR-6).
“When I heard about HJR-6, I knew I had to join the powerful bipartisan movement that’s working to stop this anti-freedom amendment,” Cheney said in an email to Freedom Indiana supporters.
Cheney is the latest to come out in opposition of HJR-6. Universities and companies across Indiana have voiced their support of Freedom Indiana’s efforts including IU, Purdue University, Ball State University, Eli Lilly & Co., and the Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce.
“There’s nothing I wouldn’t do to protect my wife Heather and our two children,” Cheney said. “And then I think about the thousands of same-sex couples and their families in Indiana who would be directly impacted by HJR-6, I’m committed to standing together and working across party lines to keep this amendment out of Indiana’s constitution.”
