The fines may still be assessed, but don't have to be paid for the moment.

Judge David Dreyer has granted a temporary restraining order to Representatives Vanessa Summers, Shelli Vandenburgh and Bill Crawford. The order states that the fines imposed by House Republicans for the Democrats‘ failure to report to the House floor for sessions will still be imposed, but that the money will not be deducted from the lawmakers‘ expense checks.

The three Democrats were the only representatives involved in the lawsuit, but House Minority Leader Patrick Bauer say others may join the case after the judge‘s decision. Most House Democrats have been absent from the floor for the last two days in protest of right-to-work legislation.

House Speaker Brian Bosma said Thursday his caucus would follow a judge‘s order even if they disagreed with the decision.
