Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman says "minor health concerns" will prohibit her from running for governor in 2012.

Indiana Lieutenant Governor Becky Skillman says she will not run for governor in 2012.  She made her announcement in a printed statement to the press.  In it, she said her end of year physical exam revealed minor health issues.  She stated that while it will not interfere with her duties as lieutenant governor, she thought it best to continue without the additional stress of a gubernatorial campaign.  Skillman has served as an elected official for 34 years, first as Lawrence County Recorder in 1976.  She was elected to the Indiana State Senate in 1992 and has served as Indiana’s first elected female lieutenant governor since 2004.  Indiana Congressman Mike Pence is said to be considering a run for either governor or president in 2012.
