The life sciences industry plays an important role in the state. Newly released data shows a $50 billion total impact on the state’s economy.
The information was compiled by the Indiana Business Research Center at the Indiana University Kelley School of Business and BioCrossroads.
Lori LeRoy with BioCrossroads says Indiana is ranked as one of the top five states in the life sciences industry with a workforce of 55,000 people at more than 1,900 companies.
“You can find these companies even in small towns like Warsaw and Spencer, Indiana, LeRoy says. “Huge operations- employing thousand of people, making a huge impact on both the Hoosier workforce and the economy.”
LeRoy says those companies are located across the state- making things like medical devices and equipment to pharmaceuticals.
Leroy says the state needs to capitalize on its success and continue strong business, employment and innovation.
