Senate President Pro Tem David Long (photo right) said lawmakers will meet in June to potentially override the governor’s veto of a tax bill.

Towards the end of each session, legislative leaders set a technical corrections date, a day when the General Assembly can meet to fix errors in recently passed legislation or override vetoes.

Senate President Pro Tem David Long says he can’t remember a time in recent memory when the legislature has actually convened… until this year. Long announced Thursday lawmakers will meet in June to potentially override the governor’s veto of a tax bill.

The legislation primarily deals with local income taxes in Jackson and Pulaski counties technically collected without authority for the last several years. Pence said he vetoed the measure because retroactively approving the taxes was not the proper remedy.

Long says the solution created by the bill can’t wait until next session. But he says that won’t open the door to considering an override of any other bills Pence vetoed, such as a measure licensing diabetes educators.
