Kokomo Mayor Matt McKillip says the city is keeping an eye on ongoing talks between Delphi and United Auto Workers. Delphi is currently cutting jobs and wages to get out of bankruptcy at its Kokomo plant. McKillip says the city has known for two years that Delphi and the union have been negotiating for more competitive plans. He says however the negotiations pan out, Delphi will remain an important part of Kokomo’s economy.
McKillip says the city has had to deal with making up property tax revenue that has been suspended while Delphi negotiates bankruptcy proceedings, but he expects those revenues to come back to the city once the company emerges from that process.
