Fourteen missionaries from Kokomo had traveled to Haiti, a country that has been ravaged by poverty and natural disasters.

Five missionaries from Kokomo have been wounded in an armed robbery attempt in Haiti. Officials with Oakbrook Church said at least six gunmen stormed into an apartment where mission workers were staying.

Two missionaries were shot in the legs, another was shot in the elbow and a fourth man’s thumb was grazed by a bullet. Another of the missionaries was injured when he jumped from the second-floor window.

Church officials said a group of 14 mission workers were providing aid in Haiti, about 30 miles outside of Port-au-Prince. Many of the injured workers were expected back in Indiana on Friday night.
