IU Police arrested Jeffery Durbin Sunday after witnesses identified him as person who fired shots outside a fraternity near IU's campus.
A 19-year-old Kokomo man faces charges of criminal recklessness, intimidation, pointing a firearm and carrying a handgun without a license after police say he shot a gun in the air early Sunday morning near Indiana University’s campus. According to IU police, Jeffery Durbin is not a student at the university.
Witnesses from the Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity told police shots were fired when visitors were leaving a Halloween party. Police say Durbin was waiting on a ride, he became irritated, pulled out a gun and began to wave it in the air. Everyone ran for cover in the house and heard gunfire while they were hiding.
The University was put on lockdown, and IU police activated the emergency response system telling people in the area to stay in their homes or avoid the area. Police located Durbin and witnesses identified him as the shooter. No one was injured.
