While it's rare, squirrels can bite when they perceive danger.

Indiana University Purdue University says it’s received reports of aggressive squirrels on campus and it’s warning students not to feed the animals.

The university says in a blog post giving squirrels human food means they will stop foraging on their own and start approaching humans.

Squirrels can carry several diseases, including salmonella, plague, Lyme disease, tularemia,  leptospirosis and rabies.
