IU Athletes To Compete In London Olympics

Indiana University will be represented at the London 2012 Olympics beginning in late July.

Several current and former Indiana University athletes are competing in the London 2012 Olympics.

Most recently, Orianica Velasquez was named the first women’s soccer player from IU to compete in the Olympics. Velasquez will be one of 18 players to represent the Colombian National team.

“I am thrilled to have been able to coach and continue to coach someone that has played in the World Cup and now has the opportunity to represent her home country in the Olympics in London,” Indiana head women’s soccer coach Mick Lyon said in a statement.

Velasquez joins at least seven other IU athletes at the Olympic Games that begin in London later this month and continue through mid-August.
