Indiana University professor Alexander Doty died Sunday after he was hit by a motorcycle while vacationing in Bermuda.
Doty, who was a professor and chair of the Department of Communication and Culture in the College of Arts and Sciences at IU Bloomington, had been in critical condition since he was injured Thursday.
“The entire IU Bloomington community mourns the unexpected and tragic death of Alex Doty,” IU Bloomington Provost Lauren Robel said in a statement. “Alex was respected across the campus, and we will miss his voice and his presence as a faculty leader.”
Doty’s academic work centered around gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and feminist film theory. He came to IU from Lehigh University in 2008.
