Governor Mitch Daniels will posthumously award Bill Cook with the Sachem Award this evening.
Indiana University will host a remembrance of the life of Bloomington entrepreneur Bill Cook this evening, including the posthumous awarding of the state’s highest honor. Governor Mitch Daniels will be on hand to name Cook the latest winner of the Sachem Award at the ceremony, which takes place at the IU Auditorium starting with a reception at 5:30. Cook, Indiana’s richest man at the time of his April 15 death, made his fortune manufacturing and selling medical devices – a business he started in his Bloomington apartment in he 1960s and expanded into an multi-billion dollar corporation. A second venture made Cook Group a major player in the Southern Indiana real estate market, including contributing millions of dollars to help rebuild and revitalize Bloomington’s courthouse square and the West Baden Springs Hotel.
