IU Football Team Hopes For Redemption In Season Opener

Coach Keven Wilson says he is confident his team can improve after a difficult season last year.

The Indiana University football team kicks off the season 8 p.m. Saturday, and Hoosier fans are ready for anything.

Saturday’s game against Indiana State is the first chance for second-year Coach Kevin Wilson to redeem the Hoosiers from their 1-11 season last year.

“Were not a bad team because of bad players,” Wilson says at a press conference Tuesday. “We’re a bad team because good players don’t play good enough. That’s why you’re not good.”

The Sycamores have never beaten Indiana, but Wilson recognizes ISU won five more games than IU last season.

“I think they’re a quality team,” Wilson says. “I believe they’re going to come in and fight to win the football game and we better be ready to answer the bell because this one is not going to be easy. We’ve been talking about that for several weeks.”

Around the IU Bloomington campus, a number of students expressed their anticipation for tailgating, but few showed interest in IU’s match-up against Indiana State.
