IU Athletics is putting finishing touches on their next major capital campaign project. The Basketball Development Center is now “Cook Hall” in honor of a 15-million dollar gift from The Cook Group.

Last fall we toured the new IU Basketball Development Center under construction. With move in day scheduled right after the Final Four, workers are finishing up the new headquarters for the men’s and women’s basketball programs.

Associate Athletic Director of Facilities, Chuck Crabb, gave us a sneak peak of the new center.

“This will be the women’s basketball area when everything opens up and we have a similar court for the men on the north side of the building.”

The center is an impressive state-of-the-art venue. The 67-thousand-square-foot, multilevel facility features practice courts, locker rooms, coaches’ offices and meeting/video rooms along with Legacy Court.

“This area will be a celebration of Indiana University Basketball through it’s 110 years. Men’s and women’s basketball, very prominent features throughout, the All-America. I think people will be very mindful that it is a practice facility where we have very active ongoing events taking place and it’s kind of a classroom setting. The players probably won’t want to be disrupted in that area and their locker room is their locker room.”

We’ll have a full feature story on the new center during “The Weekly Special” Thursday, April 1st at 8pm on WTIU.
