Indiana University’s star baseball player Ryan Halstead suffered a serious knee injury in the home opener against Xavier yesterday.

The injury occurred when Halstead landed awkwardly while making a play infield. Halstead is IU’s all-time leader in saves.

He was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in last year’s Major League Baseball draft but decided to play out his senior year.

Doctors are expecting a full recovery following knee surgery.

The team now heads south for a three-game series at Jacksonville University (3-7). The #17 Hoosiers (5-5) are winners of three straight, including a 2-1 victory over Xavier in the home opener on Wednesday.
