IU Approves Construction of Baseball, Softball Complex

The approval to build the fields fulfills a promise Indiana University made to its baseball and softball programs several years ago.

The Indiana University Board of Trustees on Thursday approved construction of a new $19.8 million baseball and softball complex.

The complex will be constructed near the intersection of State Road 46 and Fee Lane where the intramural sports fields are currently located.

“The new baseball/softball facility will allow both teams to compete at the highest level, further demonstrating IU Athletics’ commitment to enhancing the experience of our student-athletes and ultimately delivering on a promise made to both programs several years ago,” said IU Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Fred Glass in a press release.

Construction on the fields is planned to begin spring 2012 in hopes they will be finished by the 2013 baseball and softball seasons.
