ISU President Helps Launch Economic Development Program

"Sycamore Initiative" aimed at helping area expand and retrain the workforce and lure new business to the area.

Indiana State University President Lloyd Benjamin was among the dignitaries in Bedford yesterday to help launch a new economic development program. ISU is teaming up with the Lawrence County Economic Growth Council to develop the “Sycamore Initiative,” which planners hope will help the area expand and retrain the workforce and lure new businesses to the area. Meanwhile Benjamin says the expanded economic development initiative would expand on the current functions of the Lawrence County Community Learning Center, and take ISU’s role in local economic development beyond the classroom.

State Representative Eric Koch was also on hand for the announcement. Both Koch and Benjamin said the county has had to cope with bad economic news over the past year. He said the region was at a “critical” moment, and that decisions made now will have ramifications for years to come.
