A Ball State University professor spent the summer driving across the state to photograph all 92 county courthouses and adjoining squares.

From the hitching posts in LaGrange to the heavy foot traffic in downtown Columbus, Chris Flook says he was impressed with the variety and also the intricate design of the courthouses and downtown areas.

“I’m from Indiana, I just didn’t think I had a very good understanding of a lot of the communities,” he says. “I wanted to be able to update the historical record, satisfy my own interest in architecture, and have a good survey of all the communities within the state.

More than 80 counties have historic courthouses.

Several counties lost their historic courthouses due to natural disasters.

The rest of the courthouse photos can be found on Flook’s website.
