An Indiana National Guard unit will move its headquarters and operations from Indianapolis to Terre Haute.
Adjutant General Martin Umbarger says the 81st Troop Command will establish its headquarters at Hulman Field in Terre Haute.
“My headquarters is in Indianapolis, 38th Infantry Division headquarters is in Indianapolis, and as is the 76th Brigade Combat team out in Lawrence,” he says. “So, I‘ve been wanting for over the last year to get a major officer headquarters out of Indianapolis in case something were to happen there.”
Umbarger says the 81st Troop Commande made the most sense to move because with its core mission of assistance in the event of a disaster, the Emergency Operations Center can serve as an alternate location for his command post as well.
The 81st Troop Command consists of 32 full time positions and 66 citizen soldiers and airmen.
