Indiana lawmakers want to write new laws regarding moped safety on the road.

The state‘s moped laws might get a much-needed update. A coalition of lawmakers, law enforcement, and business leaders is making an effort to improve moped safety. State Representative Milo Smith from Columbus has been trying to get mopeds licensed for the last 4 years but is hopeful this time it will pass.

“Technically there is no legislation requiring or restricting how a moped can be operated on state law because there is no statute,” Smith said. “That is what we’re trying to correct as well.”

Indiana‘s moped laws haven‘t been updated since 1971.
