New bridges would ease the traffic on current bridges such as this train bridge, which crosses from Louisville to Indiana.
Kentucky and Indiana officials addressed hundreds of potential contractors and others Wednesday, at a Louisville forum on getting the two Ohio River bridges built. Indiana governor Mitch Daniels told the gathering at the Kentucky International Convention center he believes the federal government will be on board with the changes they are proposing to the project.
His message for the contractors: “show us what you got!” He says those who are ultimately selected, will be those with the most imagination.
Kentucky governor Steve Beshear told those on hand that they not only want ideas on cutting costs, but also cutting the time needed to build the bridges. He says they hope to begin work in August of next year, and that the new environmental study recently ordered by the federal government, won‘t prevent them from reaching that goal.
The two-day conference ends today.
