A bill in the legislature would put stricter requirements on the inspection of stage equipment.
The Indiana House has passed legislation requiring adoption of new rules for regulation of outdoor stage equipment like the rigging that collapsed last summer at the Indiana State Fair.
Senate Democrats say the bill, authored by Senator Tim Lanane (D-Anderson), would establish standards for the installation and inspection of such structures, and would also institute a permit process to determine their safety and functionality. A permanent fix would come later after a review by a study committee. The amended bill returns to the Senate.
