A merger which has been in the works for years between Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO) and Kokomo Gas & Fuel is coming to fruition. Spokesman Nick Meyer said Kokomo Gas and NIPSCO have been sharing resources – except for field employees – for some time now and a formal merger is just the final step.
“When NiSource had originally just Kokomo gas and then made that a sister company with NIPSCO, sort of the long-term view was to eventually consolidate both of the companies under one company,” Meyer said.
Meyer said that the main change will be that the Kokomo Gas and Fuels brand name will be abandoned for the NIPSCO brand and logo. Kokomo Gas bills, customers, and employees will all be referred to under the NIPSCO banner. In addition, Meyer said Kokomo customers could see their bills lowered, as well as gain access to different billing options and cash rebates.
“The way the programs work, you know, because the programs are partially supported by NIPSCO and through the NIPSCO repairs those programs can only be offered to NIPSCO customers,” Meyer said.
Meyer said that no changes can be made until the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission formally approves the consolidation.
