The Indiana Department of Local Government Finance officials have announced that they are nearing the end of a county-by-county review of property tax assessments ordered this summer by Governor Mitch Daniels. DLGF Commissioner Cheryl Musgrave says assessments for 68 of Indiana’s 92 counties have been reviewed and cleared. Nine additional counties were recently cleared, including Greene, Johnson, and Owen counties. Four counties have been given a directive to reassess property values, and an additional four are scheduled to hold public hearings in which officials will determine whether reassessment is necessary. Musgrave says the DLGF still has data requests outstanding with three counties, including Brown and Putnam. Musgrave says she stands by the review process her department has been undertaking.
Musgrave also announced today that statewide property tax information is now available on the DLGF website. The database now includes sales disclosures and assessment information. Musgrave says the information can be used in the appeal process.
