Congressman Marlin Stutzman, R-Indiana 3, says he lost his post with the House Republican leadership team after voting against its rules for amending and debating the first farm bill.

Republican officials removed Stutzman as an assistant whip because he opposed their procedures for advancing the five-year agriculture and nutrition bill.

As the Journal Gazette reports, Stutzman knew he could face consequences for splitting with his party leadership.

“One of the requirements is you have to vote for all the rules with leadership if you’re on the whip team,” Stutzman said.

“But I felt that it was not the right direction. … I just felt it was wrong, and (the farm bill) failed. I think that I proved out that I was right under the circumstances.”

In June, the House Rules Committee rejected Stutzman’s proposed amendments to separate agriculture programs from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program – food stamps for low-income people, which account for about 80 percent of farm bill spending.

Stutzman made his case during  speech on the House floor in June, saying Washington’s “unholy alliance of farm policy and nutrition policy has spun out of control.”

Stutzman told the Journal Gazette he is still on good terms with GOP leaders.

Hopefully, Hoosier voters have learned their lesson about this tool, who accepts farm subsidies, but tries to cut benefits for the poor

Good! Stutzman is a Tea Partier who has been voting with the right wing nut jobs who are holding our economy hostage. He needs to go!
