The Indiana Attorney General’s office is urging Hoosiers to freeze their credit following a recent data breach at Fort Wayne-based Medical Informatics Engineering and its subsidiary, NoMoreClipboard.

The breach may have affected 1.5 million Hoosiers and nearly 4 million people nationwide.

The attorney general’s office says it’s investigating the breach and monitoring the situation.

The firms provide electronic medical records to health care providers. The breach compromised social security numbers, lab results, medical conditions and health plan information.

It wouldn’t surprise me if the health insurance companies have hired hackers to do this because now they have to insure people and more importantly, they have to insure people with per-existing and chronic conditions, disabled or not. Unless Health and Human Service doesn’t monitor the behavior of the providers and the insurers, the cost of healthcare will continue to rise each year and people’s ability to pay will continue declining because their pay or benefits stay the same. Then when they drop coverage because of this, they will be fined by the IRS and HHS for not having insurance. The ACA is light on regulation and enforcement and heavy on requirements, a prescription for out of control costs to the consumer. Health care is right not a privilege.
