Congressman Todd Young (R-9th) won his re-election bid in Indiana’ 9th District on Tuesday, besting Democrat Shelli Yoder.
It will be Young’s second term in the House, this time in a district redrawn for him by the Republican-controlled Indiana General Assembly. Young’s campaign emphasized small government and a number of popular conservative issues, including repealing the Affordable Care Act.
“You said you want leaders who are not going to plan your lives from Washington, D.C.,” Young said in his victory speech. “That’s what you’re going to get from the 9th District.”
Yoder says even though she did not win, she is proud of the effort her campaign put forth.
“We learned, we fought, we got out there and met people all across the 9th District,” she said in a statement. “It has been an amazing experience to meet so many Hoosiers and to hear about their lives and concerns, and I will continue to work to help the District in every way I can.”
