The Indiana Department of Transportation is upgrading the existing State Road 37 into I-69.

The state has finalized the contract to improve the 21-mile stretch of existing State Road 37 from Blooomington to Martinsville to interstate standards.

The construction on what will become Interstate 69 is being paid for by state bonds.

I-69 Development Partners, who are in charge of design, construction, financing, and operations, will then be required to maintain the interstate for a set number of years.

The construction is expected to be completed in 2016.
