All the police were freed after being held hostage in a house near Martinsville earlier today.

Police arrested 27-year-old Eric Simmons of Martinsville after he trapped four p0lice officers inside his home Tuesday.

The police team tried to serve a warrant at the Morgan County home when shots were fired. The police then retreated to the basement where they were trapped during a standoff.

SWAT teams were able to get the officers out of the home using tear gas and protective gear that was delivered to them by a robot.

Rich Myers with the Indiana State Police says officers are often put at risk.

“It’s unfortunate that something this simple has turned out into something obviously of this magnitude, but that’s the job of a policeman, he said.

Simmons is wanted on several charges in Marion and Boone counties.
