For the second consecutive season, the Michigan Wolverines defeated the Indiana Hoosiers.

The Wolverines beat the Hoosiers 27-20 in overtime at Memorial Stadium Saturday.

“I love these players, and our coaches who give so much,” Indiana coach Tom Allen said. “They left it all, out there and played a good football team. And we came up just short, so I’m not going to sit here and feel sorry for anybody. I will take responsibility for whatever didn’t happen. It was tough against Michigan for sure. They whipped us up front the last couple of plays.”

Trailing by three late in the 4th quarter, IU kicker Griffin Oakes hit a 46 yard field goal as time expired to send the game into overtime with IU and Michigan tied at 20.

On the first play of overtime, Michigan running back Karan Higdon ran into the end zone for a 25 yard touchdown to give Michigan the lead 27-20.

Higdon went on to rush for a career high 200 yards and three touchdowns on 25 carries.

IU, needing to reach the end zone to extend the game into a second overtime, failed to convert on 4th and goal from the one-yard line.

The Wolverines finished with 329 total yards of offense, IU tallied 278 in the loss.

Michigan improves to (5-1, 2-1) on the season with the win.

Indiana’s losing streak to Michigan is now 22 games. The Hoosiers have one victory (1987) against Michigan since 1967.

Freshman Quarterback Peyton Ramsey, making his first career BIG 10 start, completed 20 of 41 passes for 178 yards.

Receiver Luke Timian finished with a season high 95 receiving yards on seven receptions.

The Hoosiers (3-3, 0-3) will begin a two game road trip beginning next weekend against Michigan State (4-1, 2-0) in East Lansing in a battle for the Old Brass Spittoon.

The Hoosiers return to action at Memorial Stadium on November 4 against Wisconsin.
