Hoosiers who lost their unemployment benefits have all week to file to get them restored.

Federal legislation Congress approved Friday means that those who’ve lost their benefits since November 30th ,when the program expired, can file to have them restored.

Filing began Sunday.  Department of Workforce Development spokesperson Valerie Kroeger says as long as there aren’t any issues people could already be receiving their benefits.

“Basically the way it works is you have to go online and file that voucher where state you are still unemployed and are still looking for work. So once you fill out that voucher, we process your claim overnight and we can pay you the next day because it is all electronic,” said Kroeger.

Hoosiers who lost their benefits have all week to file to have them restored. In addition, Kroeger says they can file for retroactive benefits to cover the time they were cut off.
