Indiana Ninth district Congressman Baron Hill says a report being compiled by General David Petraeus will likely have a significant impact on congressional support – or lack thereof – for the war in Iraq. The general is slated to issue the report on the effectiveness of President Bush’s “troop surge” in mid-September. Hill says the report will likely reflect mixed results in Iraq.
During a meeting with reporters in Bloomington Wednesday, Hill said his greatest frustration since returning to Congress in January is trying to get the President to take a different course in Iraq. He says the lack of change in Washington is hurting the reputations of both the President and members of Congress, who haven’t been able to overcome the threat of presidential vetoes.
