Three people were transported to an Indianapolis hospital from the Statehouse after feeling faint this morning. Another dozen complained of dizziness and difficulty breathing.
Fire department and EMT personnel were sent to the Statehouse Thursday morning after several members of a tour group complained of respiratory problems.
A HAZMAT team was later called in to test the air quality of the entire building, though the affected group was confined primarily to the Department of Education. Fire department spokesperson Eric Hofmeister says the cause of the illness is still unknown.
“We went through the whole building with the meter,” he says. “All readings of air levels came back normal. There was no concern to evacuate the building.”
The three people transported to the hospital are reportedly in stable condition. State police say the investigation is now in the hands of the Board of Health.
