More charging stations for electric vehicles are popping up around the state and the nation.

A fueling station in Greenwood has installed a place for electric car owners to fill up, and do so faster than before. The Murphy USA station just off County Line Road in Greenwood is touting a Level Three Quick Charging station made by charger manufacturer Eaton Corporation.

It was the first quick-charging station in Indiana, operating since mid-April, with another quick charging station opening at the Murphy USA in Plainfield shortly thereafter. A level three station will fully charge a car in 30 minutes as opposed to the level two stations found in Indianapolis and elsewhere, which take six to eight hours to charge a car.

The level three stations also only work with cars that feature quick charging technology, such as the Nissan Leaf and the Mitsubishi I. The quick chargers do not work with the Chevy Volt.

Murphy USA vice president Angelo Lambis says the quick chargers will be free for consumers to use “for a while.” He says demand will dictate whether they install chargers at other Murphy stations.
